Apple's power is growing. Its announcement of another new product leaves geeks and quasi-geeks giddy with the anticipation of a child on Christmas eve. Today Apple launched the iPad its version of a Tablet PC.

Apple's new iPad tablet pc is touchscreen much like an iPhone or newer iPod. Its a combination of a laptop, netbook, iPhone, iPod and Kindle. The device has a 10 inch screen weighs almost two pounds and its keyboard is an on screen display much like an iPhone. The battery life is about ten hours much longer than the average laptop. The iPad is typical of Apple's impeccable design and awesome style, its a gem.

But is it all hype? What can it do that your laptop currently cannot do? With an Internet connection one can already access any type of content accessible online. The difference may be that the iPad gives one access to Apple's full array of products in one device from its operating system to its iPhone to iTunes to its dominant App store full of useful and time wasting applications. These coupled with Apple's new new iBooks app to organize e-books on the iPad, makes the device even more attactive.

The question becomes how does Apple's competitors such as HP and Dell. It seems Apple is moving beyond the cool factor to slowly becoming the new standard. How does Microsoft respond?
