In one of the most shocking political events akin to a Democrat winning the Senate in say Mississippi, a Republican named Scott Brown has won the senate seat vacated by the death of Democratic icon Ted Kennedy. The citizens of Massachusetts voted for a Republican party that brought forth the economic crisis and the Great Recession, a Republican party that created the spending deficit (Clinton left office government surplus Bush left office deficit – even before TARP). Democratic activist nationwide are shocked by the defeat. Most blame the poor campaign of Martha Coakley. Democrats are nonetheless hopeful due to the fact that a 19 seat majority remains in the Senate and a substantial majority remains in the House.

What's next? Democrats can still pass health care reform which will merely put limits on how the insurance companies can screw with the American people. The health care debate was dominated by lies orchestrated by Republican activist with claims of death panels and government takeovers. Democrats still maintain a bigger majority than George W. Bush had and he got everything he wanted, including one unnecessary war.

All politics is local. Massachusetts already has health care coverage for all its citizens. Yet Scott Brown like the Republican party is against health care reform for all Americans. They claim the cost of health care reform yet they have no response to the fact that Republicans created the federal deficit, before the Democrats took power. So because of the vote of about 100,000 citizens of Massachusetts protecting Americans against the wrath of health insurance companies just became more difficult.
