Matt Garza of Tampa Bay Throws No Hitter

Matt Garza of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays threw a no hitter marking the fifth time a no hitter has been thrown this baseball season. For the Tampa Bay franchise it was the first no hitter ever thrown. The win over the Tigers also helped Tampa Bay keep pace with the division leading New York Yankees. The Detroit Tigers Max Scherzer also had a no hitter going before giving up a grand slam home run to Matt Joyce in the 6th inning.

Prior to Matt Garza's no hitter the talk of baseball had been the Yankees Alex Rodriguez pursuit of home rum number 600. 600 would put Rodriguez 155 away from Hank Aaron and 162 from Bonds. It is still not clear how baseball handle its most cherished records in the era of steroids. If pitchers and hitters were juiced maybe they will let it be.

The New York Mets and San Diego Padres remain the only teams to not have a no hitter.
