Johnny Damon one of the stars of the Boston Red Sox Championship runs and a former member of the World Series Champions New York Yankees was reportedly claimed off of waiver by his former team the Boston Red Sox. Johnny Damon signed a one year deal with the Tigers for $8 million. The Tigers and the Red Sox have either 48 hours to make a trade, the Tigers can pull him off of waivers, or the Red Sox can take Damon and the last $8 million of his deal.

Damon a two time all star could help the Red Sox who remain 5.5 games back of Tampa Bay in the American League Wild Card chase. Detroit's season is all but done being 15 games back of the Wild Card. The Sox have been mired by inconsistency and are still trying to recover from a slow start to the season. The Devil Rays and Yankees have at times looked younger and deeper than the Red Sox. But its still too early to give up on the experienced and battle tested Red Sox and if they add Damon it should be an exciting September for baseball as the season comes to a close.
