Kwame Kilpatrick Sentenced For Being Former Mayor of DetroitPolitics BlackState.com 25 May 2010
Kwame Kilpatrick the former Mayor of Detroit was sentenced to up to 5 years in prison for violating parole. A harsh and unusual sentence for a public figure. Kilpatrick became Mayor of Detroit at the young age of 31, he was the youngest mayor in the history of Detroit and his youth and inexperience plagued his tenure. There were numerous scandals, some media sensationalized, some of his own creation. He eventually resigned after being charged with felonies including perjury and obstruction of justice. He lated pled guilty to two felony counts of obstruction of justice. Kilpatrick was sentenced to four months in prison after pleading guilty to reduced charges, but was released after serving ninety-nine days.
