The Philadelphia Eagles traded Donovan McNabb to divisional rival the Washington Redskins for a second round pick in 2010 and a future third or fourth round pick. This trade is a steal for the new Redskins regime led by Mike Shanahan. One can not be sure what this trade means for current Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell but it can not be good for his chances to return as starter.

The trade is even more shocking in that the Eagles traded McNabb to a team the Eagles play twice a year. McNabb led the Eagles to several NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl but was never loved in Philly. Philly will now head to NFL obscurity where they were prior to McNabb and the Redskins will now be a team to watch next year. In the NFC East, the Cowboys are coming off a playoff run, the Giants started strong but faltered midway through, the Eagles at times looked unbeatable, and the Redskins season with the drawn out drama with Jim Zorn, the lost to Detroit and management disarray. The Eagles have gotten rid of their two most important weapons over the past few seasons Brian Westbrook and now McNabb. It is not clear how they can improve in a tough division with their remaining quarterback roster.
