Miley Cyrus just released her new video for “Wrecking Ball,” and already it’s broken the VEVO record for most views in a day--probably because she’s swinging from a ball completely nude!
The video, directed by Terry Richardson, has everybody once again talking about Miley, whose bad girl twerking image is far from the Hannah Montana character she played on Disney Channel. Miley however, defended her video, telling MTV News that the visual is more than what meets the eye. “I think the video is much more, if people get past the point that I'm naked and you actually look at me you can tell that I actually look more broken than even the song sounds. The song is a pop ballad. It's one of these songs that everyone is going to relate to, everyone has felt that feeling at one point." She also added, "If people can take go into their imagination a little bit and see kind of what the video really means and the way it's so vulnerable and actually if you look in my eyes I look more sad then my voice sounds on the record it was a lot harder to do the video then it was to record the songs. It was much more of an emotional experience."
Miley’s father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, loves the song, and could care less about the video. “It wouldn't have mattered if Miley would have worn jeans and a flannel shirt., a Tux, or a nun's habit,” he stated. “The song's a smash...and her performance vocally on the tune reflects her roots and sheer God given talent."
When Miley first came out with her twerk video to “Wop,” it was unexpected, but cute . However, since then, the girl has gone crazy! First twerking ridiculously on Robin Thicke and acting a mess at the Video Music Awards, and now this! Miley is obviously determined to shed her Disney image, but you don’t have to be lewd and naked to do it! She’s definitely not the first singer to be naked in a video, and won’t be the last. However, I think that she needs to realize that her actions aren’t necessarily giving her the best attention.
In the midst of the controversy, Miley has a lot going on this fall! Her MTV documentary, Miley Cyrus: The Movement, debuts Oct. 2, and she will host and perform on Saturday Night Live on Oct. 5. Three days after, Miley’s album Bangerz hits stores October 8 with features from artists like Nelly, Big Sean, and Britney Spears!
