American Meb Keflezighi and Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia Win New York City Marathon

In a race normally won by a Kenyan, Brazilian, or South African, an American Meb Keflezighi won the New York City Marathon in 2:09:15. The Eritrean born Keflezighi won the silver medal in the men's marathon at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia won the Women division in 2:28:52 restoring African supremacy and normalcy to the New York Marathon. Tulu also has Olympic pedigree winning gold medals in 1992 and 2000.

Although Keflezighi and Tulu are originally from rival nations, Americans, Eritreans, and Ethiopians alike celebrate their victory.
