After 232 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, 219 years since George Washington, a slave owner, became the first President, a person of African descent, has become the 44th President of the United States. A black man has been elected the President of the United States. A nation that endured genocide of the native population, centuries of slavery, a brutal civil war, a century of segregation, and only 45 years since the March on Washington, civil rights act and voting rights act. He has achieved the last “first black” designation. Parents of African American children can truly say you can grow up to be President of the United States.

To our black ancestors that came before to our seniors who waited in line and whose grandparents were born into slavery, a black man named Barack Hussein Obama has become the President of the United States. God Bless America.

He won this historic election not with just the black vote but with a united coalition of white Americans, and hispanic Americans eager for a new direction for America. There was no Bradley effect. Obama got more white voters than Gore and Kerry. He carried the capital of the old confederacy Virginia. He carried Florida and Indiana a state Bush won by 20 points.
