The USA Soccer team won their group today with a thrilling 1-0 win over Algeria in stoppage time. With England leading and later defeating Slovenia 1-0 the US needed a win to continue on their world cup journey. In the first half the US got off to another troubling start with Algeria missing a goal by hitting the top bar of the goal. But the USA got their chances as well including a goal that was disallowed due to a wrongful offside call.

The score remained 0-0 throughout the game to stoppage time where four minutes was added. After a great run by Algeria thwarted by the US goalie Howard, he launched a perfect pass to a streaking Landon Donovan who passed to Jozy Altidore who launched a shot on goal blocked by Algeria but Donovan continued to follow the play and kicked in the deflection erupting the USA fans in the stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.

With the win the US moves on to the knockout stage of the World Cup winning their group for the first time. And despite the criticism of England throughout the UK their football team moves on as well.
