George Floyd joins the most horrific of American lists of African Americans killed at the hands of the police. Millions if not billions of people watched a white American police officers for 8 minutes plus kill a handcuffed man pleading for his life, pleading to breathe. It took four days to charge the killer cop with murder. He and the other cops should have been immediately placed into custody. In fact, new videos have emerged and showed three officers with their knees on Floyd. However, it was the chief perpetrator a police officer named Derek Chauvin who placed and kept his knee on the neck of Floyd in what many who recognized the type of choke as a blood choke, kept his knee on his neck even after he perished. Not just the Black community in Minneapolis but all people with a soul should be outraged and demand justice.

We’re tired of being tired. Tired of marching, tired of the lip service. We’re tired of writing this type of post. Month after month year after year. From Rodney King to Amadou Diallo to Sean Bell to Trayvon to Michael Brown we’ve called for justice to be done. But often times the perpetrators of crimes against our community go free.

It has beocme clear to the vast majority of Americans what African Americans have always known that the willful killing of unarmed and at times handcuffed black and other people of color at the hands of Police are not one off events. It is a pattern and practice. It is a feature not a bug. Not a few bad apples. The entire system of policing in American communities need to be rebuilt.

We need real solutions to this pandemic here are a few:

In every jurisdiction we should remove any immunity or deference police officers have for the use of force.

Investigate and remove white racists from all police forces.

Arrests, bring charges, and fire police officers who have used excessive force and or who have been disciplined for exccessive force. The officer who killed George Floyd had priors and remained on the Minneapolis police force. Minneapolis should immediately investigate and fire additional cops on their force right now.

The feds should create a national database of cops with a history of excessive force to prevent the rehiring of bad cops by other police forces.

These are just a few. We need real justice. Real justice in the names in the names of those who perished and whose memories will not be forgotten on our centuries long road to liberation, rebirth, and reclamation.
