It’s 420 you know what that means. National Weed Day. To quote Chris Tucker’s character Smokey from the movie Friday, “I know you don’t smoke weed, I know this; but I’m gonna get you high today, ’cause it’s Friday; you ain’t got no job… and you ain’t got shit to do.” National Weed Day April 20 is about bringing attention to marijuana legalization, further promoting the medical uses and shining a light on harsh marijuana laws.

The National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws NORML states on their blog, “despite nearly three quarters of a century of government-imposed Cannabis Prohibition, it is, again, that oh so magical day that cannabis consumers celebrate … and prohibitionists loathe: April 20 A day (and a time of day) that signifies the ever increasing cultural and commercial acceptance in America (and internationally) of millions of consumers’ and medical patients’ want and need for Cannabis Prohibition to end.”

Sixteen states and the District of Columbia have laws permitting the use of medical marijuana. But its in California where medical marijuana dispensaries have exploded over the last two years. California voters declined to give full legalization to some amounts of marijuana. Prop 19 failed 53% to 46%. But as we know with each election cycle the voting demographics change. In the near future legalization will be a reality in some states.
