Martin is there sitting next to Malcolm
Coretta and Betty are there too
Next to Malcolm is his old pal Redd, he and Richard are
Making everyone laugh,
Harriet too, she next to Frederick
Maya, Toni, Octavia, Richard, and James are there
Pontificating literature and the poetry of hip hop so of course
Tupac is there, Biggie there, Huey too
Ida is there, Woodson, DuBois and Booker is there
Nkrumah, Lumumba, and Nyere are there
Look who just popped in. The golden age is in the house.
The great Mansa stopped in tonight he’s wondering aloud how these
things happened, how the descendants of his empire became captives and enslaved in a far away land, to be tortured, lynched, and killed. The great Ramses agrees. He’s also watched in disbelief. He said “don’t they know the world is there’s…my buildings still stand.”
But none are discouraged.
They all have our back.
They are watching.
Our beautiful table watches over us.
