The political world left and right are trying to make sense of President Trump’s bizarre joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Even Fox News pundits were at a loss for words. Prior to the press conference, and Trump’s mysterious one on one meeting with Putin, not many thought that Trump was an agent/asset of Russia. However, his performance in Helsinki made just about everyone wonder what the heck is going on. Trump refused to side with American intelligence on Russian interference in the 2016 election, despite federal indictments of Russians, and despite Trump being extensively briefed in great detail on Russian involvement.
John McCain stated that the press conference in Helsinki “was one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory”. Conservative commentator George Will, stated that “collusion with Russia is hiding in plain sight” and that “The world, however, saw in Helsinki something more grave — ongoing collusion between Trump, now in power, and Russia.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/this-sad-embarrassing-wreck-of-a-man/2018/07/17/d06de8ea-89e8-11e8-a345-a1bf7847b375_story.html?utm_term=.7edc77d9fdb3
Why aren’t more Republicans outraged? Are Republicans particularly in the House getting Russian money? Is this the reason for their silence and behavior? Why aren’t they investigating whether Trump, before 2016 a quasi–GOP outsider, used Russian help to secure the GOP nomination? How did Trump win the GOP nomination? Where did Trump get that bizarre story about Ted Cruz’s dad?
As the special counsel investigation continues and his campaign manager faces a criminal trial, will Trump pardon him? And if Trump starts to pardon will there be fall out? Will the Republicans have the guts to impeach or do we have to wait until the Democrats take control of Congress after the November elections.
