President Muhammadu Buhari was re-elected President of Nigeria, the largest in terms of population, country in Africa, and certainly one of the economic powers of Africa. He defeated Atiku Abubakar, a former vice-president and businessman.
Age apparently was not a factor, (he’s younger than Bernie Sanders) but the 76 year old Buhari faces many challenges, including dealing with terrorists in the North, a recession, and managing a diverse and a hungry youth with the median age of the nation hovering around 18. Buhari’s reelection also maintains stability for the West African giant. Buhari is currently serving as the head of ECOWAS and Nigeria is an important player in West African politics, economics, and security.
