The low-budget Icelandic airline WOW shut down suddenly and without warning leaving travelers stranded all around the world. The low cost carrier known for great deals from North America to Europe – through Reykjavik, posted on its website a Travel Alert. No ordinary travel alert like flights delayed etc. This travel alert states, “End of Operation of WOW Air”. Uh ok. To passengers trying to get home a collective and angry WTF!

Luckily WOW states that passengers should check available flights with other airlines. Really? Great. “Passengers are advised to check available flights with other airlines. Some airlines may offer flights at a reduced rate, so-called rescue fares, in light of the circumstances. Information on those airlines will be published, when it becomes available.

It is not clear yet what the shut down of WOW means for other low cost providers of flights to Europe from North America such as Norwegian Air or Level.

Check out WOW on the Gram during happier times…like yesterday.
